  • Do you have problems becoming or staying number from anesthetics?

The goal of Dental Sedation is to put you into a relaxed state so that you can feel less pain or anxiety during your procedure. During the sedation process, you will remain conscious and alert, yet feel completely relaxed.

There are several different options for sedation dentistry in Calgary, including Nitrous Oxide Gas, Oral Sedation, and IV Sedation. At Concept Dentistry, we are pleased to offer Nitrous Oxide as well as Oral Sedation so you can be treated right in our clinic. If you require IV sedation dentistry in Calgary, we will refer you to a specialist who provides this service.

Your Sedation Options: Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas,” is a form of Sedation Dentistry that is very reliable. Nitrous Oxide is a very gentle and safe sedation option used to increase your level of comfort during your dental procedures.

Nitrous oxide is a gas that is administered using a breathing apparatus that is placed over your nose. You will remain conscious throughout your appointment and will be able to communicate with us as well. Nitrous oxide works very quickly so you can relax within seconds of your appointment beginning. Nitrous oxide is also a great option because it wears off fast once your care is finished. At Concept Dentistry, our experts can evaluate whether you are a good candidate for our Calgary Sedation Dentistry care and what the appropriate dose is for you.

Your Sedation Options: Oral Sedation

Calgary Oral sedation is a medication prescribed to reduce anxiety during your dental appointment. If we determine that oral sedation is right for you, we’ll prescribe the appropriate medication that will work best for you, which is taken a few hours before your appointment. The effects of oral sedation last much longer than those of nitrous oxide. Patients who opt for oral sedation are required to have someone drive them to and from their visit, in addition to monitoring them for up to 24 hours after the visit.

FAQs

Concept Dentistry understands that for many people, the thought of visiting the dentist can cause stress or anxiety. Concept Dentistry is pleased to be able to help! Sedation dentistry is a combination of sedatives and comfort measures to make sure you feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible throughout your visit with us. We look forward to being your SE Calgary Sedation Dentist of choice, so you can receive the oral care and attention you need.

Concept Dentistry is pleased to offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation. Nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as laughing gas, is a gentle and reliable form of sedation that is administered through a mask that is placed over the nose. The mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen is inhaled through the mask and works very quickly so you can relax as soon as the appointment starts. You will remain conscious throughout your appointment, but should feel calm and more at ease. Once your appointment is done, the nitrous oxide will wear off quickly, making it a great option if you do not want to deal with prolonged side effects. Oral sedation uses medication to help reduce stress and anxiety. If Concept Dentistry determines that oral sedation is the right option for you, we will prescribe a medication in pill form that is taken a few hours before your appointment. Sometimes medication is prescribed the night before to help anxious patients sleep better. The effects of oral sedation last longer than nitrous oxide and so individuals taking it are required to have someone drive them home. Concept Dentistry looks forward to being your SE Calgary Sedation dentist of choice!

For Nitrous oxide sedation, you will have a mask gently placed over your nose and will breathe in nitrous oxide combined with oxygen. The mixture will help you relax. Your Calgary sedation dentist administers and controls the amount of sedation you will take in to ensure you remain as comfortable as possible throughout your visit. The effects of oral sedation can range from minimal to moderate depending on what you are prescribed. You will take a pill hours before the procedure, which will make you feel drowsy and help you feel more at ease during the appointment. A larger dose of oral sedation may be prescribed which will cause you to feel drowsy enough to fall asleep during your appointment, but will typically not be too strong to prevent you from being awakened with a gentle nudge

Concept Dentistry is your sedation dentist of choice! We are committed to ensuring you are as comfortable and relaxed as possible during your appointment. Dental sedation can help eliminate much of the anxiety and stress that is often felt when visiting the dentist. It can help individuals feel as relaxed as possible, making them feel much more at ease when getting a procedure done. Lessening dental anxiety can encourage individuals to receive the treatment and care they need, as opposed to avoiding going to the dentist altogether. Concept Dentistry looks forward to being your SE Calgary Sedation dentist of choice.

Sometimes it is hard to determine exactly what type of sedation is right for you. Concept Dentistry is here to answer any questions or concerns you may have. We encourage you to call our dedicated team, or set up an appointment with us and we will help you determine if sedation dentistry is right for you.

Yes! Children can safely benefit from sedation dentistry. Your SE Calgary Sedation Dentist will discuss the different types of sedation options they feel is best for your child. Depending on the dental procedure, your child may be required to be completely still, which sedation can help with. While it is common and understandable that children feel scared and anxious about visiting the dentist, we are here to help. Sedation dentistry can help children feel much more comfortable during procedures so they can receive the oral care they need.

Sedation is ultimately a way for you to feel more relaxed and at ease during your appointment. We are aware that many individuals experience a lot of anxiety and stress during dental procedures, and Calgary sedation dentistry is here to help. Individuals will often feel very drowsy, to the point where they are able to feel relaxed and comfortable. On a higher dosage, some people might even feel drowsy enough to fall asleep. For more details about sedation dentistry, please call Concept Dentistry and we will be happy to help.

At your oral sedation appointment, you will be given a pill when you come to the dentist that will make you feel relaxed and comfortable during your visit. We recommend that you have someone with you to drive you home after your appointment.
